It is really a matter of opnion and someone else will certainly come along and say that I am either wrong or agree with me and you will be no closer to figuring out which one is better. Now since I am obviously going to answer this then I would say that my overall best pedal is Crank Brothers….why? Four sided entry. They make a pedal that compliments my Road bikes…the Candy C and the 2Ti. All their pedals are on all of my Mtn bikes, Acid 2, Mallett and 4ti and when I grab a bike and a pair of shoes, I cant possibly go wrong with either (theyre all the same clip and no worries for me) Mud shedding is excellent with almost any and all of them and the in/out is easier than the SPD I believe. I started out with the SPD pedal years back and it just didnt sit well with me for very long, Shimano makes great products but I will stick with their shifters and other like items for now and leave the pedals to CB. The SPD just didnt clear out the mud like the CB does and the two sided entry was a hassle (I am picky) at times for me and in short time I found CB and have been with them ever since. Do not use the 4ti if you are over 180lbs….too heavy!

Crank Brothers. EASILY. Their candy, or smarty for dirt and mud. They all base their technology off the original design, which is the egg beater. It has four sided entry, making it the easiest edal in the market to clip into. The smartys and candys are the egg beaters with a platform, so you will still be able to clip in if there is mud or dirt stuck in the pedal. It also makes it easier to ride without cycling shoes. There are many different choices, but they all base their products off the original, which is the egg beater.
Here are the sites:http://www.crankbrothers.com/ – The crank bros sitehttp://www.crankbrothers.com/eggbeater.p… – a look at the original technology, the all famous eggbeatershttp://www.crankbrothers.com/candy.php – the candyshttp://www.crankbrothers.com/smarty.php – and the smartys
hope you found what your lookin for.

I agree about crank brothers pedals. Egg beaters are by far the best for riding in ice and snow, almost any other pedal clogs up in freezing condition=s.
