Does This Look Like A Good Mountain Bike?

i'm 5'4 or 5'5 and I want my first mountain bike but i currently have no money, I stumbled upon a red mountain bike that's really cheap, and i'm thinking of changing the seat covers and pedals. http://richmond.craigslist.org/bik/12264…
or can you suggest a better mtn bike? or where's the best place to buy mtn bikes?

I would pass on this one…complete hardtail and Cheap everything including the price. You get what you pay for! Anything of quality will cost way more than $20+$5 for a lock. Truth be know the lock is worth more than the whole bike! See here for more ideas of an entry level bike :http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Cat… ALL of these come with a warranty and service after the sale so consider that when buying a bike. Craigslist does NOT offer any of that and you end up holding the bike in peices.

The price is right; why not give it a look? Even if breaks in half after a week, you’ll only be out 29 bucks. A decent bike will cost around $250 so if you can’t afford that, then you’ll have to keep looking for bikes like these. I bought a $40 Raleigh for winter commuting last year and it worked out fine with only a few tweaks. Don’t worry about tires; they are cheap and need to be replaced every so often anyway.

Sory to say this bike is prety bad. first off its a Huffy, second its 20$, third It has no suspension. This bike would not do well at all on a mountin bike trail. Reely if you want a good mountin bike you will have to spend 400$ plus
BUT if you want a mtn bike that works go to walmart and buy a cheap mtn bike there for around 20-30 bucks. This bike on creigs list if a rip off.
this bike probably would work ok as a commuter bike
Sorry to seem kind of harsh there.

I agree that is not a good bike for mountain biking.
But if you keep an eye on craigslist you might be able to find a really good deal for cheap.
I once saw a $1000 bike on CL for sale for $50 because the wife was selling her husbands stuff in a divorce, but it was sold in about 2 hours. Those deals are few and far between so you have to act fast when you see them.
Stay away from the Walmart, Target and other big stores bikes like Huffy, Next, Vertical. I think those bikes even have a sticker that says “Not intended for offroad use”.
Look for a used hardtail bike, (meaning front suspension only) for your first mtn bike. Good used full suspension bikes will most likely be well over $500. Hardtails will be much cheaper.
Also, read the forums on http://www.mtbr.com to learn what is good and what’s not.http://richmond.craigslist.org/bik/12254… That Giant is more what you want to be looking for.
Besides Giant, other brands that you might find for cheap are GT, Gary Fisher, Trek, Iron Horse and a few others I can’t think of right now.

If you are planning to ride the bike offroad, on trails, then you need to get something better. We have all been in that place where we want a bike but don’t have enough money… purchasing that bike will just make you unhappy.
Take a little time, save up some money, and look around for used bikes in the $200 range. I know it sounds like a lot but it will make all the difference in the world.
