I Have A 20 Speed Mountain Bike With A Twist Grip Gear Shifter And My Gears Are Not Working Right?

When i am in gear 2-5 after pedaling awhile especially when i am standing my gears automatically shift down to 2-6 and then after awhile they will shift to 2-7... im not sure why it is doing this if you no please tell me what it is and if you can how to fix it...im really good with bikes so i shouldn't have to bring it into a shop... thanks

    If you have 2 gears on the left and 7 on the right it is a 14 speed. If you have 3 on the left and 7 on the right it is a 21 speed.
    You have a loose cable. This is easy to adjust…
    1) Shift the bike into 2-7;
    2) Follow the cable that operates the rear derailleur (the thing that moves the chain to different gears in the back) and locate a bare portion of cable. Tug in it a little. There should be no tension on the cable AND no slack.
    3) If there is slack, find the barrel adjusters.. there is one on the shifter (where the cable goes into the shifter) and one on the derailleur. Turn the barrel adjusters equally until the slack disappears.
    Done!
