Mountain Bike Shoes? Too Dangerous?

I have been going to the B.M.X. track on my mountain bike lately and I am finding MTB shoes where you clip the shoes into specialized pedals that you can buy for your bicycle, these would come in handy for instance stopping my feet sliding of the pedals while going over jumps etc etc BUT say I do a jump and stuff up can I instantly jump of my bicycle and lessen the injuries or do I have to commit and stay on my bicycle once I have made a mistake and crash flying into the ground?

i would not recomend the shoes and pedals for jumping. get some stomp or platform pedals. their pretty big and they have some pretty long medal knobs that keep your feet on the bike. they range from 20 -150 for the really nice ones. go for the cheap then upgrade later. in respect to the clip in pedal shoes they are designed so that when you fall off of your bike most of the time your natural body movement will force you out of the pedals but when it doesnt it is extremely nasty so dont use them for jumping on a bmx track. know if your doing xc then get them and those jumps its not as imperative that you be able to get off your pedals quickly

i think ur thinking about SPD pedals and shoes, where theres a clip on the pedal and a set of screws for u to screw onto ur shoes.
If ur gonna go to a dirt track and jump around and stuff u don’t want that kind of shoes as those shoes are mainly for XC riding, as all day long they are just pedalling and not gonna adjust their legs much.
Its pretty dangerous to use SPD for jumping as ur foot is gonna get stuck to ur pedals if u fall or something (remember u screwed the shoes to your pedals?)
Get those flat sole shoes with sole designs that can grip into the cleats of ur pedals, that would hold on to ur pedals very firmly and u wont slip.
