My Mountain Bicycle Has Increasing Tightness At The Crank While Pedalling? What Is The Cause?
Over the the past few riding sessions, the crank of my MTB has increasing friction/tightness while pedalling (greatest while reverse pedalling). What can be the cause and what is the remedy? It is a high performance Cannondale mountain bike.

Never ever use WD-40 on any part of you bike.
If you have been riding in areas that contain fine dust or crushed limestone and it collects on the down tube of your bike it probably got into the bottom bracket bearings. You will need the remove the crank arms and clean and regrease the bottom bracket. There are some sites that will shop you how to do this.http://bicycletutor.com/http://www.parktool.com/repair/
my guess is the grease is wearing try oiling all the components that have to do with moving the moving. You can use WD-40 or special oil made for bikes.
